About
This site will present the original valve maps with balanced entities. The replaced entities are
ingame-items like weapons and other equipment, that is placed more thought now. Using this versions
of maps on your server will improve the gameplay & increase the fun of playing Half-Life because the
whole thing became more fair now.
How to install:
Just copy them to "..\Half-Life\valve\maps\". The old maps
can be overwritten ! (because the map structure is identical)
A backup from the original maps is always stored in the
archive "pak0.pak" in your valve folder (except crossfire).
Get them from there again if you need.
How it works:
A client who connects to a server with
updated maps will not be forced to re-download them, because the new versions
are 100% compatible to the old client versions ! (only the entity lists have been modified) When a client
connects, he will get the entity information from the server - so the maps are serverside only ! You cant play the
new versions as a client, when you connect to someone else's server.
What has changed ?
- heavy weapons are harder to find / reach
- class 4 weapons (gauss, rpg, ...) are rare now
- gluon-gun (egon) was taken out (it spoils gameplay, tactics /is only for singleplayer)
- disregarded tactical locations were made interesting again
- positions that were to powerful became moderate
- unsafe spawnpoints are better hidden now (prevents spawn-killing a bit)
- from every spawnpoint similar (low) distances to the next weapon
- missing batteries (and healthkits) are spread over the map wisely
- movement added: tactical locations have been linked - that means weapons and their
ammo are separated sometimes. move to find them !
- for some items you need to climb first
- doors to hidden rooms are easyer to open
- etc ...
